Hart Local Elections on 22nd May

by stuartbailey on 1 May, 2014

Nominations closed last week for the elections to Hart District Council. This year due to boundary changes every council seat is up for election which means that every voter will have 3 votes to elect the 3 people they want to represent them at Hart. Along with Graham Cockarill and Dave Neighbour I have been selected by local Liberal Democrats to stand in the Yateley East ward. This year more than ever its important that we have a strong and experienced team of councillors who are prepared to stand up for the interests of Yateley. Over the next 3 weeks we hope to meet as many people as possible but if you have any questions or comments please do feel free to call me or leave a message on this website. If you are not likely to be around on the 22nd May its not too late to register for a postal vote just click on the link on the right of this page and complete the form that pops up. lib dem winning here

    Hi Stuart
What is your view of the proposal to build 150 houses on land behind Moulsham Lane and Vicarage Road? There was a public exhibition in January 2014 and submission of an outline planning application is currently being prepared. I would be interested in your comments. Regards.

      Hi Pam

      Thanks for your question.

I am totally opposed to the proposed development behind Moulsham Lane. The site is not one appropriate for building and this was confirmed in the draft local plan that Hart Council developed last year. Unfortunately that plan has not been approved and as such we are left open at the moment for applications from developers on sites like the one behind Moulsham Lane.

In my role as a town councillor and [hopefully subject to next weeks election] as a district councillor I will do everything I can to support the campaign against the development. The developers have recently contacted Yateley Town council and asked to meet with councillors so that they can go through their proposed application. We have gone back to confirm that we are happy to meet with them but that the meeting has to be in public and we hope many concerned residents will want to come along to express their views. A date is still been fixed but should be sometime in June.

In the meantime it is important that the district council moves as quickly as possible to get a local plan approved which would make developments of this type difficult to get through and ensure that appropriate developments to improve the housing supply in the area are identified.

      Stuart
