With the cold snap before Christmas and the heavy snow during the first couple of weeks of January our local waste collection service is faced with a major challenge. I am aware that many residents have not seen a bin lorry since mid December and its not clear when normal service will be resumed. I am in daily contact with the waste team at Hart who are reviewing the situation daily and when the weather permits putting in extra hours and resources to try and clear the backlog.

I know that we are facing a possible 1 in 50 year weather occurrence but there are lessons that must be learnt for the future in particular the council do need to be better at communicating what action they are doing to clear the backlog and let residents know when to put the bins out!
